1. When you buy lots of wine, it is not only a collection, but an investment....protect your investment by having an appropriate storage system like a bottle rack. 2. Wine and air don't mix, extended exposure to air will eventually turn wine to vinegar. YUK!!! Wine bottle storage racks keep the bottles horrizontal which keeps the cork moist. When the cork stays moist, it expands and keeps air out of the bottle. 3. Keeping a cork moist will prevent it from drying out and crumbling inside the bottle and into your wine. UREKA! Keeping it horizontal on a rack will keep the cork moist. 4. If storing wine for long periods, the optimal temperature for both red and white wines is between the low to mid 50 degree mark. 5. Back to the vinegar part...the higher the storage temperature, the faster it ages. Conversely, the colder the temperature, the slower it ages. 6. You must keep your humidity between 50%-80%. 7. Light prematurely ages a bottle of wine. This is the reason why wine makers bottle wine in dark bottles. Unfortunately, UV light can penetrate the dark bottles; therefore, keep them out of the sun! 8. Do not store your wine in a place with unpleasant odors, such as a garage, because the odors can actually penetrate the cork and get into the wine. 9. The best way to store your wine is by creating a wine cellar.
